PLETT’S CENTRAL BEACH WAS A SPARKLING OASIS OF STYLE DURING THE 2017 PLETT WINE & BUBBLY FESTIVAL
Smiles, dress-up in blue and white with a touch of bling, sunny skies and seaside memories were the order of the day during the 4th Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival on Plett’s Central Beach on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Plett Tourism and festival sponsor, the Bitou Municipality, were overwhelmed with the generous comments and overall camaraderie. It’s been a difficult year for Plett, this was exactly what we needed to uplift the spirit of our community,” says Peter Wallington, Chairman of Plett Tourism.
The opening of the event was officiated by Wallington, followed by Bitou Councillor Bill Nel, with the traditional crowd-pleasing ‘sabrage’ with a little help from Bramon Cellar Master Anton Smal. Bubbly of choice was a signature Champu MCC from Kay & Monty Vineyards.
Event organizer Plett Tourism says that regular festival-goes have been very complimentary about this year’s festival lay-out, music selection, food vendors and the introduction of a Master of Ceremonies, the effervescent Buli G.
9 wine farms showcased their wines, with more than 30 varieties to be sampled. Hot on the list of must-try’s was Bramon’s Platter 4 ½ star 2017 Sauvignon Blanc, Platter 4 star 2016 Blanc de Blanc MCC, the Platter 4 star 2015 Sauvignon Blanc MCC and their Platter 4 star 2017 Rosé; Newstead’s Michelangelo 2017 Gran D’Or awarded 2014 Brut MCC; Kay & Monty’s Bronze Michelangelo awarded 2016 Brut MCC ‘Champu’, and Packwood’s Silver IWSC (International Wine & Spirit Competition) awarded 2014 Brut ‘Gent’ MCC.
Other wine highlights from this year’s festival included the addition of a beer stall, biltong and droëwors and a very popular ‘Ice Palazzo’ cart with tempting Champagne and Sangria sorbets and a Cabernet Gianduya ice cream. This was the second year for the Plett Wine Theatre with special guest speakers Pieter ‘Mr Bubbles’ Ferriera from Graham Beck wines and well-known wine columnist Peter “PeeBee” Bishop and local Cellar Master Anton Smal on the Sunday.
See you next October for the fifth Sasfin Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival!
