Backed by Plett Tourism, the concept gained momentum with fashion houses eager to participate. The first Plett 24 Hour Reunion is proud to welcome Deep Settle Movement founded by Asanda Qumelwana, Fezile Retyu and Christopher Mayiji from Gugulethu and Khayalitsha. “Some of our designs use the language from our townships. The term “GUGS” is short for Gugulethu and “KALTSHA” is slang for Khayelitsha. The “IKIYA” design is slang for your ‘‘all-star converse sneakers.” These graphics have made a huge impression in the local and international market and will be showcased at The White House with some of South Africa’s top models of the moment, David Kabamba, Irvine Bosha, Tyrese Bani, Vincent Ntunja, Mandla Waterson and Rowhan Rhode.
The Plett 24 Hour Reunion starts at 6am on the 2nd of July with the Cape Town contingent meeting up with local fashion designer Nada J from Kwano, with her original Plett collection and a bevy of local models. The designers, models, photographers, bloggers and videographers will shoot at locations around Plett for the morning. Moving to The White House by midday, the runway show will be plotted and rehearsed for the evening gala runway event. The function opens to the public at 6.30pm at The White House. Brace yourselves for your red carpet moment, a live photographic shoot in the courtyard, a complimentary drink and snacks, a fabulous runway show, and a not-to-be missed performance by 2015 Idols top 8 finalist, Lungisa. The show is not over till the afterparty is done…move on to Zanzibar and if you make it till 6am, you have completed and survived the Plett 24 Hour Reunion.
