DEVMARK PROPERTY GROUP APPOINTS NEIL VAN DER MERWE AS SITE MANAGER AT THE PLETTENBERG MANOR
Devmark Property Group, which has successfully established its name as an industry leader over the past 27 years, has appointed Neil van der Merwe as Site Manager of its new retirement village in Plettenberg Bay, The Plettenberg Manor. The development will offer 111 luxury homes, 54 assisted living suites, 24 frail care beds and a clubhouse with amenities.
Van der Merwe (66) will be responsible for all site activities and sub-contractors. “I’ve been doing project and construction management on a contract basis all over South Africa and Africa for the past six years. Prior to that, I ran my own project and construction management company for around 20 years. I thoroughly enjoy the daily challenges which go with the territory and look forward to working with the Devmark team,” says Van der Merwe.
He adds that he is thrilled be involved in this exclusive development. “Devmark is known for its outstanding retirement villages and The Plettenberg Manor is no exception. It will offer future owners a wonderful, relaxed lifestyle. All the homes have been designed to cater to the needs of retirees, from light switches to kitchens to bathrooms.”
As part of the first phase of construction, the former Keurbooms River Hotel will be restored and refurbished to function as the estate’s clubhouse, offering residents and guests the best dining and leisure experience. Van der Merwe continues: “The clubhouse will include 54 assisted living suites, a healthcare centre including 24 frail care beds, a restaurant, coffee shop, ladies bar, beauty salon as well as convenience store. Over the course of the development the wetland on the property will be rehabilitated and will include board walks and bird hides. The site is perfect for a retirement village in that it is flat and above both the 50 and 100 year flood plain. It’s also within walking distance to the beach. What more can anyone ask for?”
The development will offer six accommodation types ranging from assisted living units to three-bedroom exclusive homes designed in a Cape vernacular style, juxtaposing the Cape South Coast’s rural charm with sophisticated modern functionality and open plan living. Prices range between R1 825 000 to R3 825 million.
Van der Merwe, who was born in Malmesbury, raised in Bellville and spent his formative years in Plettenberg Bay, matriculated at Paarl Boys High. “I’ve been doing project management for such a long time that balancing my work and private life comes naturally. My motto is to do the best I can in whatever aspect of the industry I’m involved in at the time. This will be no exception! I thoroughly enjoy meeting and interacting with people and look forward to introducing prospective buyers to this exciting new development,” he concludes.
